During the global COVID-19 crisis business and normal working conditions have come to a complete halt - affecting every person in its path. JOBJACK has been no exception and our JOBJACK Pack has had to adjust to the new norm of not only remote working and social distancing, but also to the major uncertainty of their respective roles in a company that needs to innovate and survive this recruitment drought.

Our first order of business, keep our team safe, and as we are small enough each employee’s whereabouts during the lockdown could be known and checked up on. Next, was creating motivation and comfort. In a time of such chaos, above the usual chaos of a technology start-up - this was not the easiest of tasks.

Communication is key and this time was no exception, in fact, the advice we had received to aim at communicating ten times more than we thought necessary. This would consist of our weekly Monday morning standup meetings with the entire team (only over Zoom from now on) in which we open with prayer, a Bible verse and each Pack member would share their weekend experiences. Following this, all pack members would give an update on their previous week’s work accomplishments and the coming week’s focus - to ensure that the entire team knew what was going on and took comfort in the continuity of operations.

Each closing business day was also accompanied by a quick Slack (our office communication tool) summary of their day’s activities and hopeful goals for the next day. Lastly, besides regular individual check-ups and monthly evaluations (BNB’s - Better Not Bitter sessions) from management, each week was concluded by our already-established Punches (Pack lunches) in which each team member would have the opportunity to set up a fun (online) activity for the group to bond as a unit and let loose after a long week of innovation and hard work.

It is in this devastating time that we have established our company culture of trust. Trust in one another for each respective role in the organisation. Trust in the mission that we are taking on to ‘Employ the World’. And trust that we serve a Greater Purpose that has a plan with each of us now and all our days to come.
